Belarus’ air defenses down drones that threaten critical facilities, commander says

May 4, Pozirk. Andrej Łukjanovič, Belarus’ air/air defense commander, told STV on May 3 that that his forces respond to drone incursions from Russia and Ukraine almost daily.
“If an aerial target poses a threat to our critically important facilities, that target is destroyed,” he said.
Łukjanovič stopped short of blaming Russia or Ukraine for the incursions. Instead, he talked about “the complicated military and political situation.” “This is connected, in the first place, with the unprecedented militarization of our neighbors, the European continent, the continuation of military conflicts that we are observing and NATO’s expansion,” he said.
It should be noted that NATO has not expanded since March 2024, when it admitted Sweden in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In April 2023, NATO admitted Finland for the same reason.
