Cichanoŭskaja in The Hague urges Netherlands to support free Belarus

May 28, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has urged the Netherlands to be a “strong voice for a free Belarus in the European Union” during her meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten in The Hague.
The talks focused on support for Ukraine and Belarus in the context of European security, as well as Dutch assistance for Belarusian independent media and civil society initiatives, Cichanoŭskaja’s press office reports.
The Belarusian politician called on the Netherlands to contribute to the international humanitarian fund supporting Belarusian dissidents, former designated political prisoners and their families. She also lobbied for international accountability for the Alaksandar Łukašenka regime and for a consistent EU policy toward Belarus.
The sides also discussed the Netherlands’ potential role in strengthening coordination among the Baltic states, Poland, Northern and Western Europe on Belarus-related issues.
“It is very important to us that the Netherlands maintains a principled and consistent position on Belarus,” Cichanoŭskaja said, adding that support for Belarusians contributes to the security of Europe as a whole.
The politician also thanked the embassy of the Netherlands in Warsaw for its assistance in organizing events and initiatives.
