Cichanoŭskaja meets with UK prime minister in London

June 3, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in London on June 2 to discuss support for her country’s pro-democracy movement, according to the Belarusian politician’s press office.
Cichanoŭskaja urged London to align its sanctions policy with that of the European Union and to join the International Humanitarian Fund for Belarusian political prisoners.
After the meeting, the exiled Belarusian politician praised the UK’s principled stance on Belarus.
“For us, it is very important that London continues to support Belarusian society and does not recognize the legitimacy of the [Alaksandar] Łukašenka regime,” she was quoted as saying. “Support for a democratic Belarus is a contribution to Europe’s overall security.”
Cichanoŭskaja previously met with Starmer in March 2023, when his Labor Party was in opposition, and again in July 2024 after he became prime minister.
