Łukašenka responds to Zelensky’s ultimatum: Belarus ready to protect people from aggression 

June 23, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has asked residents of the Homiel region, bordering Ukraine, not to worry or be anxious following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s ultimatum, after receiving Ivan Krupko, chairman of the Homiel Regional Executive Committee.

On June 19, Zelensky gave Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle drone control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. “If he does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,” the Ukrainian leader noted.

Belarus “has everything necessary to protect its population from any aggressor,” Pul Pervogo, a Telegram channel linked to the Belarusian ruler’s press office, quoted him as saying.

Krupko briefed Łukašenka on the situation at the border with Ukraine and in the border areas, as well as the reaction of the population of the Homiel region to recent statements by Zelensky. He described the situation as “challenging, but stable and under control,” adding that security issues were “receiving the utmost attention.”

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
