June 24, Pozirk. Belarus-based relay systems that facilitated Russian drone attacks have suspended operation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
“Whether they dismounted them or not, I, frankly speaking, don’t know yet. But we are working on it and I am closely following it and receive daily reports. The fact is that the relay systems are not operational now,” Suspilne quoted him as saying.
He added that Commander in Chief Oleksander Syrskyi and intelligence reported that the relay systems had not been operating since June 22.
The Belarusian media outlet Flagshtok reported with reference to its sources that Russian attack drones have not been flying along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border for three days.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces spotted the most recent flight in northwestern part of the Chirnihiv region on June 21, Flagshtok said.
In late spring and early summer, large numbers of Russian attack drones were flying along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border every day, some entered Belarus and were frequently spotted by local residents. Some drones went down in Belarus.
On June 19, Zelensky gave Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle four drone control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. “If he does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,” the Ukrainian leader noted.
On June 23, Alaksandar Łukašenka asked residents of the Homiel region, bordering Ukraine, not to be anxious following Zelensky’s ultimatum.
Belarus “has everything necessary to protect its population from any aggressor,” Pul Pervogo, a Telegram channel linked to the Belarusian ruler’s press office, quoted him as saying.
