Putin, Łukašenka said to be in second day of talks 

June 27, Pozirk. The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Alaksandar Łukašenka in the Russian president’s residence of Valdai in the Novgorod province continues, the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Saturday. 

Peskov confirmed media reports that the two leaders are in conversation for the second day in a row. 

Information about the meeting is scarce, mostly limited to general statements about the items on its agenda. 

On Friday, the Belarusian ruler’s press office reported that he had had a one-on-one meeting with Putin, with “important issues of Belarusian-Russian cooperation in different areas, the implementation of joint projects” and “international topics and the situation in the region” under discussion. 

Putin’s press office tersely reported that the “heads of state discussed the agenda of the Union State, trade and economic cooperation and the implementation of joint economic projects as well as issues relating to regional security.” 

On Saturday afternoon, the Belarusian ruler’s press secretary Natalla Ejsmant was quoted as saying in an interview with RIA Novosti that Łukašenka’s “working visit to Russia continues, there are talks with Russia’s president on the schedule today, including even in an expanded format.” Pul Pervogo, a Telegram channel linked to Łukašenka’s press office, promised to “learn more details,” but it has not shared any so far. 

On Friday, Peskov said that the meeting is not expected to end in statements for the media or the signing of documents. 

Earlier on Friday, Łukašenka’s press office reported that he had left for a working visit to Russia. It did not specify the duration of the visit.
