Belarus records highest-ever temperature: 40.4C
June 30, Pozirk. Belarus on June 29 recorded its highest-ever temperature in the 145-year history of accurate meteorological observations, with the new record of 40.4 degrees Celsius registered in the southern city of Pinsk.
The previous record of 38.9C was reported in Homiel on August 8, 2010.
Monday’s temperature in Pinsk was higher than the new all-time record for June (37.6C) set on Sunday in Brest.
On Monday, Belarus’ highest-ever temperature on its meteorological record was reported with the announcement that Pinsk hit 39.6C at around 2:20 p.m. but final data later in the day took the all-time record even higher.
As many as 12 all-time high temperature records, including ones going back more than 121 years, were broken at weather stations in Belarus on June 29, according to Pozirk’s analysis of Biełhidramiet’s data.
The highest temperatures for June and for June 29 were recorded at 17 and 35 weather stations, respectively.
The previous high for June 29 (35.3C) was recorded in Lelčycy in 1963 and has now been exceeded by 5.1C.
The all-time highest local temperatures were recorded in:
• Pinsk (40.4C against 36.3C on August 5,1905);
• Brest (38.7C against 37.6C on June 29, 2026);
• Ivacevičy (38.4C against 36.3C on June 28, 2026);
• Pružany (38.1C against 36.4C on June 28, 2026);
• the Łuniniec district (37.8C against 35.8C on August 11, 1992);
• Hancavičy (37.6C against 35.5C on June 24, 2021);
• Vysokaje (37.2C against 37C on June 28, 2026);
• Žytkavičy (36.9C against 36.5C on August 16, 2008);
• Stoŭbcy (36.4C against 36.1C on July 16, 1994);
• Vaŭkavysk (36C against 35.9C on July 13, 1959);
• Navahrudak (34.7C against 34.2C on August 30, 1992)
Lelčycy saw a temperature of 38.2C, which equaled the high set on August 7, 2010.
According to forecasts, temperatures will decline slightly on June 30.
