Cichanoŭskaja: Finland to allocate €100,000 for Belarusian reprisal victims

September 23, Pozirk. Finland will allocate an additional €100,000 to help Belarusians who have suffered from politically-motivated reprisals, Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja’s press office reports.
The announcement came after the Belarusian politician met with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Pasi Rajala, political secretary of state, on the sidelines of the UN high-level week in New York.
The funds will be distributed through the International Humanitarian Fund and Belarusian human rights organizations that assist political prisoners and their families. This will be Finland’s second contribution to the fund, which provides financial, legal, psychological and other forms of assistance to reprisal victims.
Cichanoŭskaja thanked Finland for its continued support for the Belarusian people and stressed the importance of translating that support into concrete assistance for jailed dissidents, recently released prisoners and families affected by reprisals.
The meeting with Finnish politicians also focused on efforts to secure the release of designated Belarusian political prisoners as well as regional security and legalization of exiled Belarusians in Finland.
