The issue of redirecting Belarusian potash supplies through Russian ports has not yet been resolved, Kremlin spokesperson says
February 2, BPN. To date, the issue of redirecting deliveries of Belarusian potash fertilizers from Lithuanian Klaipeda to Russian ports has not yet been resolved, spokesperson for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told reporters on February 2.
“This issue is on the agenda, it is being discussed,” TASS quoted the Kremlin spokesperson. “If I am not mistaken, [the redirection of these] flows has not yet started. It (the issue – BPN) is on the agenda, and it is better [to ask] the Ministry of Economic Development for further details.”
Commenting on the sanctions on January 13, Peskov said: “Belarus is our partner, we are not leaving it and will not do so.” He noted that the situation with the transportation of Belarusian potash fertilizers via Russia was a “sensitive matter.”
On February 1, Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Haloŭčanka confirmed that Lithuania stopped goods transit that had been previously agreed between the state-owned Lithuanian Railways and Belaruskali.
Haloŭčanka said that Belarus had been preparing for such a development for a long time and redirected supplies through the Russian Federation. The increased cargo transportation distance, in his opinion, would be offset by an increase in global prices.
