Lukašenka wants to try in absentia Belarusian citizens accused of “especially dangerous crimes”

February 8, BPN. At the meeting of the Security Council on February 8, Aliaksandr Lukašenka suggested prosecuting in absentia “those who have committed or are committing especially dangerous crimes under the national legislation.”

He claimed that similar approaches “have long been practiced in many countries, including those in Europe.”

“I don’t think the innovation is going to affect any significant number of our citizens. Apparently, there are a few of the so-called ‘fugitives.’ Unfortunately, they exist. Those who intend to harm the country, the people, the economy and then ‘hide’ abroad may think it over,” Lukašenka was quoted as saying by his press service.
