Over 92 illegal migrants turned away at Belarus’ border with EU this past weekend

February 14, BPN. 92 illegal migrants were turned away at Belarus’ border with the European Union this past weekend.

In a Twitter post, the Polish Border Guard said that 20 (10 and 10) attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus were made on February 12 and 13, respectively.

The Lithuanian broadcaster LRT quoted the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reporting that there were no attempts to illegally cross the border on February 12 and 13. Since the beginning of August 2021, when it was decided not to detain illegal immigrants, instead turning them back to Belarus, 8,328 people were not allowed to enter Lithuania.

In a message on its website, the State Border Guard of Latvia said that 34 and 38 illegal migrants had attempted to cross from Belarus on February 12 and 13.

A total of 6,028 illegal migrants have already been turned away by Latvian border guards since a state of emergency was declared in areas bordering Belarus on August 10, 2021. As many as 124 people have been allowed to enter the country in this period “for humanitarian reasons.”
