Belstat reports 2.7% GDP growth in January
February 17, BPN. The gross domestic product at current prices amounted to 14.9 billion BYN in January 2022. The growth in comparable prices amounted to 2.7% compared to January 2021, as reported by the National Statistical Committee.
For the whole year of 2021, Belarusian GDP increased by 2.3%. It fell by 0.9% in 2020, increased by 1.2% in 2019, by 3% in 2018, by 2.4% in 2017, and declined by 2.6% in 2016.
Aliaksandr Lukašenka’s decree No. 481 dated December 9, 2021 “On approving the most important parameters of Belarus’ social and economic development forecast for 2022” anticipates a 2.9% growth of the country’s economy. The IMF expects Belarusian GDP to grow by 0.5% this year, while the World Bank forecasts a decline of 2.8% and the Eurasian Development Bank estimates a growth by 0.7%.
