Stop playing games of market bacchanalia, or you would answer by the wartime laws – Lukašenka warns the Council of Ministers and the National Bank
March 1, BPN. At a meeting with members of the Security Council and the government on March 1 in Minsk, Aliaksandr Lukašenka warned the officials about responsibility for failure to act in economy and finance.
“Take normal decisions, stop playing games of market bacchanalia, otherwise you would answer by the wartime laws, dear friends,” Lukašenka was quoted as saying by his press service. “Everyone should mind their own business if we want to save the country in this critical period.”
“I don’t need anything else from you. I’m doing my job, you see it every day. The government and the National Bank have only one task: economy and finances,” he added.
According to Lukašenka, the National Bank and the government should make all decisions together. “Get together and make all economic decisions that are verified, reasonable, and long-term. If you see an aggravation of the situation in the economy or finance, make a decision. We have enough gold and foreign exchange reserves. If someone goes crazy and chases the ruble exchange rate, that’s their right, we chose this kind of economy,” he said.
In recent days, amid the war in Ukraine, the Belarusian ruble has weakened significantly against the dollar and euro.
