March 2, BPN. Representatives of the Belarusian film industry demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and Belarus and the immediate end to the war in Ukraine. The letter was signed by 96 people, including directors, cameramen, film critics, art managers, and producers.
The signatories include filmmakers Darja Žuk, Mara Tamkovič, Aliaksiej Palujan, animation directors Iryna Kadziukova and Julija Rudzickaja, producer Volha Čaikoŭskaja, film critics Maksim Žbankoŭ and Ihar Sukmanaŭ, and others.
Representatives of the film industry strongly condemn Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.
“We are outraged that the Russian aggressor is using our territory to bombard Ukraine with deadly missiles,” the letter reads. “Many Belarusian filmmakers were welcomed and supported in Ukraine after the repression we experienced in 2020. We express our sincere solidarity with the brave Ukrainian people who fearlessly fight for the freedom of their country. As artists, we clearly see the difference between good and evil. There is no place for evil in real life.”
