Defense Ministry and State Border Committee deny Ukrainian reports about Russian planes firing at Belarusian border villages

March 12, BPN. Belarusian Ministry of Defense and the State Border Committee denied Ukrainian reports about a provocation attack by Russian planes against Belarusian border villages in order to drag Minsk into the war against Ukraine.

“The ministry states that the disseminated information about the strikes targeting the territory of the Republic of Belarus represents yet another provocation and an attempt to stir up Belarusian society. As of 6.30 pm, despite statements by Ukrainian officials and a number of Telegram channels, neither airspace monitoring and reconnaissance equipment, nor the Emergency Ministry units performing tasks in these areas have confirmed such information,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The State Border Committee release with a headline “On the Ukrainian Information Attack” emphasizes that “the news reported by Ukrainian officials and subsequently disseminated by various media outlets regarding Russian airstrikes on the Belarusian territory are untrue.”

“The settlement of Kapani is located in Stolin district in the immediate vicinity of the border with Ukraine. The border patrols of the Republic of Belarus carrying out service in this area did not register any sounds of explosions. There was also no damage on the ground on the territory of Belarus,” the message said.

According to the State Border Committee, “this information attack represents only disinformation and yet another attempt by the Ukrainian side to create a provocation.”

“In order to obtain complete and reliable information” the State Border Committee suggests “referring to the official sources of information in the Republic of Belarus.”

Today, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced that Russian Su attack aircraft “flew into Ukraine from Belarus and bombed Ukrainian territory and then carried out air strikes on the Belarusian territory.” In this case, “the approach of two planes from a neighbouring state was recorded by the border guards at the Dubrovytsia section of the Rivne region.”

Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that at 2.30 pm (3.30 pm Minsk time) Russian planes “fired at the village of Kapani (Belarus),” and “now the 9^th
Border Guard Unit is observing the seizure of this village by the enemy.” It was also stated that “there is information about the shelling of Buchličy and Verchni Cierabiežaŭ (Republic of Belarus).”
