Case of investigative journalist Ivašyn sent to court
June 10, BPN. The criminal case of investigative journalist Dzianis Ivašyn has been referred to a court, his wife Volha says on social media.
She notes that her husband has been “in captivity” for 455 days, and there have been no letters from him for 15 days.
On May 8, reports came through that the investigation of this case was completed.
Ivašyn was detained in March 2021. He was accused of interfering in the work of an internal affairs officer. Later, the charge was reclassified as “treason against the state”, which carries a sentence of up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The journalist collaborated with the Novy Čas newspaper. His most recent piece was an investigation of former Ukrainian Berkut special forces’ members, who joined the Belarusian security forces and took part in the crackdown of the protests in 2020.
Human rights defenders recognized Ivašyn as a political prisoner.
