Babaryka placed in punitive cell for 10 days – Telegram account
June 23, BPN. Viktar Babaryka, Belarus’ former presidential hopeful, has been held in a punitive cell since June 15, the former presidential candidate’s Telegram account reports, quoting his relatives.
It adds that according to officials, Babaryka had a heated discussion with a fellow inmate, which they perceived as a brawl.
The politician “is morally fine, but is experiencing discomfort at night because it’s cold,” the channel wrote.
It recalled that Babaryka had spent 10 days in a punishment cell in May.
The former head of the Belgazprombank board was arrested on June 18, 2020. He was charged with bribe-taking and money laundering and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Babaryka reportedly works in a prison bakery.
On May 16, his Telegram channel wrote that the UN Human Rights Committee registered a complaint filed on his behalf by lawyers. They asked the committee to recognize multiple violations of his rights and the duty of the state to release him.
