Three state university lecturers arrested
June 23, BPN. Over the past two days, the security forces have arrested three teachers of the Belarusian State University (BSU), the Viasna Human Rights Center said, citing reports on Telegram.
One is Dźmitryj Maroz, an associate professor at the BSU’s criminal law department. In a “penitential video” from a pro-government Telegram account, the man said he was arrested for subscribing to extremist accounts, and pledged to unsubscribe.
Pro-government accounts also reported the arrest of a lecturer at the BSU’s business administration department. The man in their video said he participated in a rally in August 2020, and was registered with an election monitoring chatbot. The human rights group says this may be Juryj Karaloŭ.
The security forces also arrested Maksim Maroz, a senior lecturer at the BSU’s School of Business. In a penitential video, Maroz said they arrested him as part of an investigation into extremism, adding that he was afraid of losing the job.
