Minsk resident sentenced to seven years over online messages

June 27, BPN. A court in Minsk sentenced Ihar Karpicki to seven years in prison, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported on June 27.

The verdict was handed down in early June, but human rights activists have learned about it only now.

Judge Taćciana Šocik convicted the man of organizing public order disturbances, threatening violence towards an official, insulting Alaksandr Łukašenka and a public officer.

According to the indictment, Karpicki sent several messages through Łukašenka’s official website, threatening him with violence.

In addition, he supposedly sent a message insulting senior police officials.
