Local website blocked following editor’s arrest

September 20, BPN. Belarusian internet service providers have blocked access to the privately-owned Bobruyskiy Kuryer website, local Telegram channels report.

Earlier this month, a judge sentenced its editor in chief Anatol Sanacienka to 15 days in jail, for an undisclosed offense.

The website was launched in June 1998. It was an online version of the Bobruyskyy Kuryer newspaper until 2008, when it transformed into Babrujsk’s news portal. The newspaper was barred from the state’s distribution system in late 2000s and folded in 2010.

Belarus has at least 30 journalists behind bars, the Belarusian Association of Journalists said.
