No money for new centers to counter cyberattacks – Łukašenka
October 25, BPN. Belarus will not set up any additional facilities to counter cyberattacks, Alaksandr Łukašenka told officials at the October 25 meeting on cyber security.
“We do not have extra money to go around and watch each other,” Łukašenka was quoted as saying by his press office.
Authorities recorded a total of 752 cyber incidents in Belarus since 2020, of which 513 had negative consequences, Jaŭhien Liplanin, the head the Operative Analytical Center (OAC), said in May 2022.
He attributed cyberattacks to a lack of “certified security systems” at government companies and agencies, failure to comply with the laws by website administrators, negligence in information security, and internal attacks.
Hackers started targeting government agencies’ websites and networks after the 2020 presidential election. Cyberpartisans, a group of anonymous hackers, often claimed responsibility for hacking and damaging state-run IT systems and sharing classified information in the public domain.
