Belarusians support Ukraine’s struggle, volunteer fighters tell Kyiv mayor

November 4, BPN. The Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment has told Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko (Vitali Klitschko) that the vast majority of Belarusians support Ukraine and are very negative about the use of their country’s territory for aggression against the Ukrainians.

The regiment’s press office said that during a meeting in the Ukrainian capital, the regiment’s representatives told Klychko about the political situation in Belarus. In turn, Klychko praised Belarusian fighters for participating in the defense of Kyiv in February and March 2022.

The parties also discussed issues pertaining to Kyiv’s assistance for the regiment.

The regiment’s commander Dzianis Procharaŭ (call sign Kit) had been wounded and two other Belarusian fighters had been killed defending the Ukrainian capital, media said.

Russia used Belarus as staging ground for its February invasion of Ukraine, and later repeatedly relied on it for strikes on Ukrainian territory, officials in Kyiv said.

Belarus denied involvement of its units in the war, but conducted multiple military drills, and is setting up a joint regional group of troops with Russia.

The Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment was formed in Ukraine in March 2022, initially as a battalion. It consists of Belarusian enlistees.

Kastuś Kalinoŭski (Konstanty Kalinowski) was the leader of the 1863 uprising against Russian rule in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
