Prosecutors charge former justice official with facilitating extremist activity

November 30, BPN. Prosecutors in Belarus filed two criminal cases against former justice official Aleh Talerčyk, charging him with facilitating extremist activity and inciting hatred, the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

“The suspect gave an interview to the Belsat extremist formation [Polish-based television channel], in which he, among other things, spoke about bringing to justice the Belarusian law-enforcement officers who remained active after the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, ‘lustrating’ them, and returning from abroad with weapons in his hands,” it said.

Talerčyk resigned from the Prosecutor General’s Office after the presidential election. Until October 2022, he was a member of the ByPol initiative of former security officers, considered by the Belarusian authorities to be a terrorist organization. On September 19, 2022 Alaksandr Łukašenka stripped him of his rank of counselor of justice.
