Regime opponent: Ukraine establishes separate military unit for Belarusian volunteers
December 2, BPN. A separate military unit for Belarusian volunteers has been organized in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a member of the opposition’s cabinet in charge of defense and national security, Valer Sachaščyk, told a press conference in Warsaw on December 2.
Sachaščyk noted that the unit is well equipped.
“I hope there won’t be unjustified casualties that we’ve unfortunately had until recently just because our guys have been fighting without artillery and some other very important equipment,” he continued.
He said that many volunteers need training, good weapons or reconnaissance equipment. “We are solving this problem systematically, we have good relations with the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” he added.
He went on to say that since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Belarusian volunteers “have been killed, wounded, received insufficient medical and legal assistance.”
“As of today we have practically organized a system of assistance to Belarusian war veterans in Ukraine,” he said. “We already have an agreement with a very good hospital in Warsaw, which will provide assistance on a systematic basis to all who need it.”
Many fighters have left Ukraine without receiving any payments from the Ukrainian government, Sachaščyk said. “As of today we are working with the office of President Zelensky, checking every report. And everything that the guys should get by law, they will get,” he said.
The opposition’s security chief also said that preventing the Belarusian Armed Forces from entering the war is an important area of his work.
