German Belarusians ask Scholz to intervene in Kaleśnikava’s case

December 5, BPN. German Belarusians have published an open letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, asking him for help in the treatment of imprisoned protester Maryja Kaleśnikava.

They asked the German government to insist on a German medical crew’s visit to Kaleśnikava in the presence of a German envoy. Her father and lawyer, too, should be allowed to meet her. She should stay in a civilian hospital until full recovery, monitored by the German doctors, they said.

Law enforcers placed former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka’s campaign manager Maryja Kaleśnikava in a Homiel hospital last week. Unconfirmed reports suggest that she might have been diagnosed with a perforated ulcer. She was operated on on November 28.
