IOC to keep sanctions against Belarus, Russia

December 6, BPN. Now is not the time to lift santions imposed on Russia and Belarus after the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing the International Olympic Committee (IOC) spokesman Mark Adams.

On February 28, four days after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, the IOC recommended that athletes and officials from Belarus and Russia should be excluded from international competitions. This recommendation was implemented immediately and on a mass scale.

Later, some federations made it clear that only the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine will allow Minsk and Moscow to return to sports.
