Lithuanian parliament’s committee backs firearms ban for Belarusians

December 7, BPN. The Lithuanian parliament’s national security and defense committee has approved a proposal to prohibit Belarusians and Russians from owning firearms.

Committee Chairman Laurynas Kasčiūnas said the ban would make Lithuanians safer, Delfi reported.

The goal of the proposed legislation is to prevent the emergence of armed sabotage groups in case of unrest, he added.

A similar ban came into force in Estonia on December 1.
