IOC President: participation of Belarusians, Russians in 2024 Olympics unclear

December 8, BPN. Participation of Belarusian and Russian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris remains unclear, Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), told journalists on December 7.

“No date has been set for a final decision on the matter,” Reuters quoted him as saying.

On February 28, four days after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, the IOC recommended that athletes and officials from Belarus and Russia should be excluded from international competitions.

The recommendation was implemented immediately and on a mass scale. Later, some federations made it clear that only the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine would enable Belarusian and Russian athletes to participate in international competitions.
