Prosecutors discover 35 percent more corruption crimes in 2022

December 8, BPN. Belarusian prosecutors discovered 35 percent more corruption crimes in 2022 than the previous year, Ihar Hrejba, the head of the anti-corruption department at the Prosecutor General’s Office, told reporters in Minsk on December 8.

“It does not mean that a corruption wave has swept the country,” he said. “We are talking about greater efficiency of detecting illegal actions.”

The justice official said Belarus registers 1,500-2,000 corruption crimes annually. Their share in the total number of crimes ranges from 1.5 percent to two percent.

Compared with 2021, there has been an increase in the number of discovered briberies, abuses of power and instances of misappropriation.
