France “deeply concerned” about Kaleśnikava’s health, detention conditions

December 8, BPN. France has expressed deep concern about Belarusian protester Maryja Kaleśnikava’s health and detention conditions.

“Kaleśnikava must receive appropriate medical care and continue to be defended by her lawyers,” the French foreign ministry said on its website on December 6.

“France asks the Belarusian authorities to release unconditionally and immediately all those arbitrarily detained in Belarus, and condemns the Belarusian authorities’ continued crackdown on its people,” it added.

Law enforcers placed former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka’s campaign manager Maryja Kaleśnikava in Homiel’s emergency hospital last week. She was operated on on November 28. This past weekend, they transferred her back to the penal colony.

Babaryka’s campaign said Kaleśnikava’s hospitalization with a perforated ulcer and peritonitis was a result of ill-treatment in prison.
