Łukašenka plays up departure from US dollar, settlements in national currencies
December 9, BPN. Everyone sees that the era of US dollar domination is coming to an end, Alaksandr Łukašenka has told participants in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Bishkek.
He stressed the importance of deeper integration within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), joint projects and modern industries.
“Given the fundamental changes in the world, we need to pay close attention to the strategic directions of the Union [Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)] development,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying.
The EAEU agencies may be authorized to support industrial cooperation from the common budget, while specific industrial projects could benefit from the Eurasian Development Bank’s subsidies, Łukašenka said.
Economic unions that use national currencies for settlements are the future, he noted. Belarus and Russia have already moved away from the US dollar and it is important for other partners to follow suit, Łukašenka added.
