Cichanoŭskaja speaks about plight of Belarusian political prisoners in Norway

December 10, BPN. Up to 5,000 people are behind bars in politically-motivated cases in Belarus, with 10-15 people arrested every day, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja told Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

She also discussed the rehabilitation of convicts in politically-motivated cases and their family members and called for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Aleś Bialacki.

Cichanoŭskaja also thanked Norway for supporting a free, democratic Belarus at her meeting with Masud Gharahkhani, the Norwegian parliament’s speaker.

The opposition leader arrived in Oslo on a three-day visit on December 9 for talks with Norwegian officials and the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony.
