Aleś Bialacki’s wife receives his Nobel Peace Prize

December 10, BPN. Natalla Pinčuk, the wife of imprisoned Belarusian human rights defender Aleś Bialacki, has received his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja attended the awards ceremony.

Bialacki shares the award with human rights organizations Memorial, Russia, and Center for Civil Liberties, Ukraine.

Bialacki has headed the Viasna Human Rights Center since 1996. Belarusian authorities have persecuted him for his public and human rights activities.

In July 2021, he was arrested on charges of tax evasion and financing riots. Bialacki remains in custody together with his associates Valancin Stefanovič and Uładzimir Łabkovič. Human rights organizations consider them political prisoners.

In October, the German-Swiss human rights organization Libereco collected 100,000 signatures under a petition for the release of Bialacki and other political prisoners.
