Lithuanian president dismisses Minsk’s grain transit plan as trap
December 11, BPN. Minsk’s new initiative offering transit of Ukrainian grain through Belarus is a trap, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has said.
No one believes it, especially as long as Alaksandr Łukašenka allows Russians to do whatever they want in Belarus, he noted.
Belarusian authorities want to show that the West is behaving inconsistently and can’t agree on sanctions, Nausėda added.
Earlier, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievič told UN Secretary General António Guterres that Belarus would let Ukrainian grain to transit to Lithuanian ports.
Łukašenka had mentioned conditions for such transit on earlier occasions. In June, he told Guterres that ports used for Ukrainian grain exports should also be open for Belarusian goods. Later, he accused the West of trying to lay the blame for global famine on Russia and Belarus.
