Łukašenka orders surprise military drills

December 13, BPN. The Belarusian Security Council has started a surprise check of combat readiness following Alaksandr Łukašenka’s orders, the defense ministry’s press office reported.

The surprise check comes amid a national drive to verify draft-age Belarusians’ data and Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Belarusian ruler had admitted that Belarus participated in Russia’s war, but said it was “not killing anyone.”

“The activities will be of a comprehensive nature,” the defense ministry said about the drills. “Troops will move to the designated areas as soon as possible, carry out engineering works, organize protection and defense, and build bridge crossings over the Nioman and Berezina rivers.”

Military equipment and convoys may be moving along some public roads with temporary traffic limitations to be introduced for the general public, the defense ministry warned.
