New Air Force commander set to continue re-equipment program

December 14, BPN. The Air/Air Defense Forces will continue technical re-equipment, Col. Andrej Łukjanovič, newly appointed commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, told the defense ministry’s staff.

The defense ministry’s re-equipment runs until 2025 and includes upgrades to the integrated regional air defense system of Belarus and Russia, the defense ministry’s press office quoted the official as saying.

Alaksandr Łukašenka appointed Łukjanovič on December 13. He served as deputy commander and chief of aviation prior to the appointment. A renowned sniper pilot, he had headed the 50th Mixed Air Base near Minsk for more than 10 years.
