Lithuania: Ukrainian grain deliveries via Belarus possible if no political conditions set

November 14, BPN. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has said commercial deliveries of Ukrainian grain through Belarus are possible, but Vilnius will not negotiate any political conditions.

“If any political demands are put on the table, the government will undoubtedly intervene, and we will be strict here: there will be no political negotiations with the Łukašenka regime on transit through the territory of Belarus to Lithuania,” he told reporters, as quoted by Delfi.

Last week, Belarus told the UN that it would allow grain transit for export from Lithuanian ports without preconditions. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda dismissed Belarus’ offer as a trap.

Different routes are considered for Ukrainian grain exports to assuage concerns of a hunger crisis in poorer countries.

Belarus earlier demanded that the West remove obstacles to its fertilizer exports.
