Ministry suggests letting long-serving soldiers buy rented homes at discount

December 14, BPN. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense suggests that soldiers should be able to buy their rented homes at below the market price after 20 years of service, Col. Siarhiej Šyšoŭ has told VoyenTV.

“A serviceperson reaching 25 years in service will be entitled to acquire rented housing at no cost. The defense ministry submitted a proposal giving servicepersons a right to buy rented housing at the apartment’s residual value (not exceeding its market value) after 20 years of service,” Šyšoŭ said.

On December 6, Deputy Prime Minister Anatol Sivak said security forces would be entitled to privatizing their rented apartments for free after 25 years of service. Alaksandr Łukašenka said that over 33,000 people “with shoulder insignia” were on the waiting list for better housing.
