Government to increase wages in public sector in 2023

December 20, BPN. The Belarusian Council of Ministers has announced a 7.55-percent increase in the base rate to 228 rubels starting on January 1.

The base rate is used to calculate the wages of public sector employees. Authorities increased it five times in 2022: from 208 rubels in March to 212 rubels in November.

In October, nominal gross average pay (before taxes and other mandatory payments) in Belarus fell by some 0.6 rubels to 1,636 rubels (about $661 at the exchange rate on October 31 at the Belarusian Stock and Currency Exchange. More recent data is not available.

On December 8, the government announced an increase in the minimum monthly wage to 554 rubels (about $224) in January 2023, or by 21.2 percent compared to January 2022.
