Belarus clamps down on international cybercrime group

December 20, BPN. Belarusian law enforcers detained 20 people allegedly representing an international cybercrime group. Eight of them have been charged, a senior Investigative Committee officer, Andrej Matolka, told a press conference in Minsk on December 20.

The eight suspects are in custody, he said. They include the group’s underage organizer and the developer of its “unique software product” stealing money from card accounts, including during purchase on an unnamed website.

“According to our criminal case files, the total number [of members] in the group exceeds 1,300,” Matolka said. The committee understands that they live in Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland and other countries, he added.
