Latvian border guards say found two Afghans on Belarus border

December 22, BPN. Officers of the Latvian State Border Guard found two nationals of Afghanistan “with pronounced signs of frostbite and in a critical state of health” on the border with Belarus on December 19, the agency’s press office reported.

It said the refugees had been moved into Latvia “through the fence by third parties from the Belarusian side.”

“Unfortunately, despite hospitalization, one of the victims later died due to severe hypothermia,” Latvian border guards said.

They added that “the hybrid threat from the Belarusian authorities persists” on the Latvian-Belarusian border, and “is becoming more intense despite the cold weather.”
