Convicted student activist released after serving full prison term
December 23, BPN. Authorities have released Taćciana Jekielčyk, a former student at the Belarusian State University, after she had served her prison sentence in full, the MGLU za Svobodu Telegram channel reported.
On November 30, authorities also released lecturer Volha Fiłatčankava, Alana Hebremaryjam, a member of the Coordinating Council for Political Crisis Settlement as well as ten former students convicted in connection with the post-election protests.
Jekielčyk was one of the 12 defendants in the students’ case and remained in prison because she had been arrested later than others.
Eleven pleaded not guilty in court and were given sentences of two and a half years in prison. Hleb Ficner, the only one who pleaded guilty, was released on May 31 after serving two years in prison.
