Former investigator Juškievič sentenced to 11 years in prison

December 26, BPN. The Minsk City Court has sentenced former investigator Jaŭhien Juškievič to 11 years in a high-security prison, Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

The judge found him guilty of participating in protests, inciting hatred and disobeying police orders.

Prosecutors also accused Juškievič of being a regular contributor to an opposition Telegram channel blacklisted as extremist.

The sentence has not yet entered into force and may be appealed.

Juškievič had worked at the Minsk Investigative Committee until his resignation in 2017. In 2020, he initiated the bychange.me project to help law enforcement officers, civil servants and people who had lost their jobs for political reasons.

Juškievič has been in custody since April 2021. Human rights groups consider him a political prisoner.
