Security chief says Poland’s new infantry division a show of aggressive policy
January 10, BPN. The new infantry division emerging near Belarus should be regarded as “Poland’s aggressive policy and non-neighborly attitude towards Belarus, the Union State and the Collective Security Treaty Organization in general,” Belarusian Security Council head Alaksandr Valfovič has said.
He told state-owned news agency BelTA that Poland and the Baltic states “aim at militarization and a stronger military component,” implying “some sort of aggression.” Belarus monitors the situation near its borders, Valfovič added.
The remarks come in response to Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak’s announcement that Poland will site the 1st Legions Infantry Division near Belarus. The decision to organize it was prompted by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, supported by the Belarusian leadership. Błaszczak said it will consist of four brigades, each brigade containing four battalions.
