Kaleśnikava leaves prison’s medical unit
January 16, BPN. The administration of Homiel’s Penal Colony No 4 has transferred dissident Maryja Kaleśnikava from the medical unit to the workers unit, a month and a half after serious surgery, Viktar Babaryka’s campaign reports.
She is back to work and feels fine, it said.
In November, law enforcers placed former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka’s jailed campaign manager Maryja Kaleśnikava in Homiel’s emergency hospital. She was operated on on November 28.
In early December, they transferred her back to the penal colony, where, in the medical unit, she had a 10-minute meeting with her father.
Her lawyer Uładzimir Pylčanka was disbarred and lost a license.
Babaryka’s campaign said the urgent hospitalization with a perforated ulcer and peritonitis “was a result of disproportionately cruel detention in a punitive cell.”
