Ukraine’s victory to help Belarusians end dictatorship – opposition leader
January 17, BPN. The victory of Ukraine over Russia will help end dictatorship in Belarus, Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Belarusian opposition leader participated in a discussion of European defense with the presidents of Lithuania, Poland and Northern Macedonia in attendance.
“Ukrainians will win this war with the help and support of democratic countries and then, hopefully, there will be changes within the Russian authorities,” the politician said commenting on her expectations for 2023.
“Since the fates of Belarus and Ukraine are intertwined, I am confident that a Ukrainian victory will open a new window of opportunity for Belarusians to rise up again and end the dictatorship,” Cichanoŭskaja noted. In the most optimistic scenario, Belarus and Ukraine will be free and “will become a part of the European family of countries,” she added.
“We live in the real world, events can develop in different ways and we must be ready for anything,” Cichanoŭskaja stressed.
