Belarusian opposition leader, Polish interior minister discuss emigrants’ legalization
January 24, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja and members of her cabinet have met with Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński to discussed streamlining the legalization procedures for Belarusians, Cichanoŭskaja’s office said.
The Belarusian delegation asked for assistance in making the procedures “more flexible and quicker.”
They also discussed “new Belarus’ alternative documents” for the émigrés who cannot go home.
Cichanoŭskaja’s aides and Polish officials discussed supporting Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine, bringing to justice those responsible for the crackdown in Belarus and hostilities in Ukraine, the likelihood of Belarusian troops entering the war, and other issues.
The ministry’s undersecretary of state Bartosz Grodecki took part in the meeting.
Cichanoŭskaja also held a briefing for EU diplomats in Warsaw, a source close to the opposition leader told BPN. She told the envoys about the deteriorating situation in her country, and urged international organizations to push for the release of 150 political prisoners requiring immediate medical attention.
In addition, the politician advocated the establishment of official contacts between EU governments and her cabinet.
