Exiled policeman’s high treason probe completed
January 26, BPN. The Investigative Committee has completed a special probe against former policeman Stanisłaŭ Łupanosaŭ.
It said it referred the criminal case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for a charging decision.
The probe was launched just two weeks before. Investigators suspect Łupanosaŭ, whom they described as “a member of terrorist organization BYPOL,” of high treason, abuse of power and unauthorized copying of data from a computer system.
Łupanosaŭ served with the interior ministry’s Main Directorate for Fight Against Organized Crime and Corruption. He resigned and left the country after the 2020 presidential election. Belarus put him on its list of persons involved in terrorist activities.
A member of the BYPOL association of former security forces, Łupanosaŭ is the 18th person targeted by the committee in special procedures, meaning that a judge is likely to try him in absentia to annul his passport.
