Warsaw considers giving Belarusian opposition a say on immigration
January 30, BPN. The Belarusian opposition’s cabinet says Polish officials discuss whether the Belarusian opposition should be consulted before the issue of proper IDs to Belarusians.
Last week, members of the cabinet met with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński, Marshal of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek, representatives of the interior, foreign, education, health, finance and culture ministries, as well as with EU diplomats.
“For the time being, Warsaw started issuing special travel documents to Belarusians staying in Poland on humanitarian grounds without passports. A permanent joint task force has been established to resolve problematic issues,” the opposition’s cabinet said.
The Polish finance ministry announced setting up a similar unit to facilitate banking and business registration, it said.
“Minister of Science and Higher Education Przemysław Czarnek assured us that Poland is ready to provide funding for Belarusian Sunday schools and Belarusian language and literature studies. Negotiations with education ministry officials resulted in setting up a joint task force,” it added.
