Polish economics professor to take over as new EHU rector
February 3, BPN. Vilnius-based European Humanities University (EHU) has elected Polish economics professor Krzysztof Rybiński as its new rector, the EHU press office reported.
“I’m excited to collaborate with the entire EHU community – students, faculty, staff, donors, and partners – during the upcoming transitional phase,” Rybiński said.
“By working together, I believe we can address the immediate challenges facing the university and solidify EHU’s status as a top institution for scholarship and civic involvement in Belarus and the wider region,” he added.
The new rector “will advance EHU’s unique role in supporting the academic aspirations and professional development of young Belarusians,” Ludmiła Uljašyna, head of the EHU Senate, stressed.
He will also facilitate cooperation with Belarusian civil society and professionals and incorporate Belarus in the European political and academic community, she noted.
Rybiński obtained his doctorate in economics from the University of Warsaw and served as rector of Kazakh Economic University in Almaty and the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business in Warsaw, Poland. He authored several books and has been writing extensively on economics in press and academic publications.
In recent years, his research focused on AI in economics, management and higher education. In addition to his academic career, Rybiński has worked at Ernst & Young and ING Bank, and as vice president of the National Bank of Poland. He speaks Polish, English and Russian.
Rybiński will officially take over as rector on April 3, succeeding Sergey Ignatov, a Bulgarian national, who has served as EHU rector since 2018.
